I have tried, and failed, to find any real references to a story which I attribute to Jim Bouton.
It is somewhat of a cosmic coincidence that he lost his daughter Laurie within weeks of Maria’s death. (Laurie was 31…and her death, in a car crash may have happened just a few miles from my home).
At some point, maybe 10 years later, he was asked: “Do you still think about her every day?”
He paused…collected his thoughts…and said “No, I don’t think about her every day”
…
He continued “That would imply that I only think about her one time each day. Rather, just as is the case for my other kids, and the other loved ones in my life…I think about them many times every day”
